Hey everyone! Well last night's roller derby was soooooo much fun and today is Chris' birthday! Happy birthday honey!!! But let's back up a minute: here's some pictures from last night which was the last match of the 2009 Charlotte Roller Girls season. First of all, Toot L-O-V-E-D it! lol
Here's a pic of me and the birthday boy:
Because Toot was with us we did not sit in the "Suicide Seats" which is sitting on the floor. Think of being in the front rows at Sea World but instead of getting splashed with water you could get a roller girl to the head.
Here's a group shot of the team and refs after the match:
They all had cool mean names like "Emmylou Harass" and "Ally Capone". It was a lot of fun to see the girls play and they are currently recruiting. Hmmmm...Think I'd make it as a Roller Girl??? LOL In other news, I played along with a new challenge blog: Nerdy Victorious Scrapbookers. Actually, it was their DT call inspiration challenge but I played along anyway, lol. (Anything "nerdy" is sure to get my undying devotion, lol)
Here's what I did:
Admittedly I do not do a lot of "me" layouts. I probably should but tend to shy away from it for some reason. But the nerd in me was entranced by the NVS collage on their blog and so here it is! :D This is about as "me" as you can get! lol Anything that I adore is here: pink, vintage, video games, kawaii, collage, bling, Mod Podge. lol Here are a couple of close ups:
I hope everyone's week has started off well, have a great Tuesday! :D
Please press play before enjoying this intimate love story...
What Is Love?
During their honeymoon at Disney World, this moment finds our young lovers enjoying the view of the water while in Epcot Germany...
Me: *sigh* Isn't it beautiful here?
Husband: (leans to the side, screws up his face and proceeds to fart for the first time in front of his bride)
Me: What the? Did you just fart in Disney's Epcot World Showcase?!
Husband: Listen, we're married now. The gloves are off...
Is it the meeting of eyes across a crowded room?
Me: (attempting to foster open communication rather than answering all of his questions with "Nothing") You see honey, during that time of the month, I just don't feel like myself. I feel fat, ugly and blah and I just need a little extra encouragement. I know you don't fully understand since you don't have to go through this every month.
Husband: Well, we've been married for two years. That's kinda like being on your period, right?
The brush of a hand across the nape of your neck?
Me: (jokingly) No, I'm angry at you. Can't you see the steam coming out of my ears?
Husband: No, but I can see the hot air coming out of your mouth...
Sweet words whispered in your ear?
Ahhhh...sweet love...
Husband: "Hey honey, look!"
I asked my husband's permission before writing this post because I wanted to make sure he knew that I loved his being able to call me on my crap and his witty sense of humor. Thank you Honey for being a good sport and for making me laugh more than any man I've ever known! (Except maybe Will Ferrell. That man is hilarious!)
Love means never having to say you're not funny...
Today is my 2nd wedding anniversary and since last year I was wicked huge pregnant we didn't really do anything to celebrate and since this year hubby is away on a business trip, I thought maybe y'all would like to celebrate with me, right gang?! *crickets*
My fingers are crossed that we will actually be able to do something for our 3rd anniversary...third time's the charm, right? So if you don't mind indulging my nostalgia as I reflect a little on the past couple of years...
This was us the weekend he proposed in early December 2006.
I had gone up to NY and he was sick as a dog. He had planned a big to-do proposal around Christmas but through a flu induced fog of inspiration proposed while we were watching "Wedding Crashers". First I couldn't stop laughing, then I couldn't stop crying.
We may have done the whole official engagement portrait thing but we did it in style...Xbox style that is (it is what brought us together after all...)
Us after our wedding ceremony:
And us being goofy at the reception:
Thank you for sharing this day with me and honey, I miss you and next year there better be a party or at least cake :P happy anniversary!
I hope everyone has had a fab-u-lous weekend so far! We're heading off to a friend's house for dinner but before we go, I had some fun stuff to share!

Speaking of Gauche Alchemy, I've decided that they are the smartest kit club in the world. Why is that, you ask? Click here and then scroll down but keep your eyes on the right hand column...go on, I'll wait!
*humming*
You're back! Did you see, did you see?! If you didn't, I'll just tell you why they're so smart right after our new segment called *drum roll* "Fun With Hats!"
"Arrrr matey! Me be a pirate, searching the seven seas for rum and Johnny Depp! Arrrrrr!"
"Am I Russell Crowe yet?!"
"Um yeah...I'm totally not doing this..."
Yes, we loved living it up at the FAO Schwartz store while we were in New York City! Have a great night and I'll see you all back here tomorrow for a new Craftoholics!
P.S.-Gauche Alchemy asked me, moi, yours truly to be a guest designer for one of their fabulous kits! See, told you they were smarties! Mmmmmm...Smarties...
While riding the bus in NY, we passed a vintage store called, "Cheap Jack's Vintage Clothing". Our stop was a few blocks up from there but Chris was lovely enough to make the hike in the opposite direction we were heading so I could check it out. And let me tell you, if you love vintage and you're in NYC, you gotta go here.
No pics of the place itself as they had HUGE signs saying they would essentially eat my camera if they caught me taking pictures but they had an AMAZING selection of clothes, hats, shoes, bags etc from the 1940's through 1980's. Here's what a I snagged:
A 50's day dress in excellent condition (and half off!)
A hat, too cute (and Chris picked this one out. I paid an ungodly amount for it! lol)
And this was the first hat to catch my eye, pink and sparkly! It needs some TLC though!
Also while in New York, I went to a fabulous book store that carries used and new books, along with out of print and rare books. I was in heaven! I immediately ransacked the film section and found these beauties (all out of print I believe):
"Life is a Banquet" by Rosalind Russell, "A Book" by Desi Arnaz, "Ava" by Ava Gardner and "Sunshine and Shadows" by Mary Pickford. And one night while going to a friend's house, I found this:
See? God wants to me collects books so there! :P lol
But the vintage discoveries did not stop once I got home! I decided to go into a little shop that is within walking distance of my house and it was a treasure trove! I couldn't believe all of this awesomeness was right under my nose all this time! She had stuff from the 1800's! It is amazing and I've already been there twice again. lol I got a January 1953 issue of Better Homes and Gardens and these hats:
But then, best of all, I found this GORGEOUS 50's dress, covered in cherries!
So I'm not in the best of blogging moods at the moment but thought I'd start the obligatory showing of vacation pictures. We had a fabulous time in New York where we found vintage stores, out of print books, Japanese dolls, a swing band in the park and the best Chinese food in the world (well, except for maybe in China itself). Toot shopped at the finest stores (not me, I didn't have the money), I treated myself to a pair of Barbie roller skates, we ate dinner with ninjas and discovered some priceless family heirlooms.
All of that will be explained in further detail later but for now, let's start with the heirlooms. As I've mentioned before, my mother-in-law is Australian. Her and Chris' dad are planning to retire there one day and as they still live in the Bronx apartment Chris' grandparents bought in the 1940's, a lot of his grandparents stuff is still there and they can't take it all to Australia with them.
Enter yours truly...
Once they found out how much I love anything vintage along with making sure family memories are archived and kept up, we left NY with a car load and could have left with three times as much if we had had the room. Here are some highlights:
Handwritten recipes from both Chris' Grandmother and Grandfather:
Both Grandmother's and Grandfather's high school rings, from 1926 and 1930 respectively:
Grandfather's collection of cuff links:
Including this pair which is my favorite:
And his tie tacks/pins:
Grandmother and Grandfather were avid readers and there were books floor to ceiling (literally) so I was able to leave with some:
Including this fabulous gem, a Vogue magazine etiquette book from the 1920's/1930's:
At one point, my mother-in-law came to me and said, "Hey, would you want this box?"
"Sure!" was my response until I realized I had no idea what was in the box. Hey, there could have been snakes in there! Luckily it was not a box full of snakes but a box full of these:
11 picture albums to be exact and 3 bags of misc pictures and cards. I believe they came from one of Chris' great aunts who has passed. Now typically, these types of albums will contain pictures from the 70's and 80's, which I was fine with as long as it was family pictures I could rescue out of these picture eating albums.
So I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when instead of being greeted by polyester and feathered hair, I found 100's of picture like these:
As far as I can tell (because I still haven't been able to fully investigate them yet), there are some pictures that date back to the 1920's. The unfortunate thing is that they are not marked and the details of who the majority of these people are has been lost. But I will still make sure to archive them all for future generations anyway.
So there it is, New York Part One! I will fill you in on the rest of our adventures as soon as I can get my pics off the camera!
Thank you for all of your sweet comments while I was away, I really appreciate it!
Oh lawd y'all, I've got so much to share today I had to make a blog list on my iPhone in the middle of Target this afternoon. (You can laugh but I bet Christy and Ally know what I'm talking about! :P) Anyhoo, y'all ready?! Here we go!
First of all, my husband thinks he's soooooo funny...
And isn't he so dashing in his new haircut? Actually, I don't know what's worse...him feeling up a paper doll or me taking a picture of his smarty pants-edness.
1. Collect the book that you have most handy 2. Turn to page 161 3. Find the 5th complete sentence 4. Cite the sentence on your blog 5. Pass it on to 5 other victims (Oops! bloggers)
And here is my sentence:
"She lugged the books everywhere, as well as a copy of the greatest Victorian writer's letters which Alexander Woollcott had sent her as a wedding present."
From the book "Vivien: The Life of Vivien Leigh", which I have yet to start yet (still reading a book on Jimmy Stewart) but it was the closest book handy so there it is! And I will tag...hmmmmmm.....
Now for some exciting news for you creative types: there's a new challenge blog a comin'! It's called Dare To Be Different and they are currently accepting submissions for their design team! They are looking for 5 scrapbookers and 5 altered book/art journal artists so head on over and check it out! They are accepting submissions until August 13th, good luck!
Speaking of altered books, guess what I've got to show you!
So over at JAD's, they are doing a "Book of Me" challenge and I decided to join in. Luckily I had a chipboard album that my fabulous friend Callista sent me so I decided to use that. The first challenge was to make the cover page...easy enough!
The picture is one of me on my honeymoon. Not the best picture but bah, whatever! It works! lol
As for my second project, my ever-muse at DustJacket Attic has been using Mondays to post pictures of (or inspired by) particular fairy tales. Every Monday is a different story or tale and I find it so inspiring! (If you don't believe me, check out her posts on Cinderella, Snow White and Rapunzel. Go on, I'll wait...)
See, told you so! :P
Well seeing this Monday's post on Little Red Riding Hood gave me the idea to start a fairy tale inspired altered book. Aren't I the clever one? Anyone? *crickets*
So I made my cover page and am planning to make a double page layout for each story I put in the book. It won't be a retelling of the story or anything but a sort of artistic impression from the story itself. Anyway, enough blah blah blah, here's the cover page:
So I think that's all I had for today...let me see....*checking iPhone list*...Yup, covered it all! Of course I'll think of 100 more things once I hit publish but whadda gonna do, eh?
How about I leave you with this funny scene from the fantastic "Bringing up Baby" starring the fabulous Katharine Hepburn and the dreamy Cary Grant. If you don't want to watch the whole clip, at least skip to minute "4:39" and check out the fabulous shoes Ms. Hepburn is wearing!
