Tis the Season to Gain Weight! Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Oh my goodness y'all, Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! Holy smokes this is so exciting! This time last year, Toot was just over a month old and no fun at all. ;) j/k lol But this year she'll be able to eat with us and then pass out with us! Yes!

Here's Toot during last year's Thanksgiving:

I love trying out new recipes anytime but around the holidays is when I do my major recipe hunts. I'm usually glued to Food Network in an attempt to find new things to try and I'm still captivated by the same holiday specials that they repeat year after year after year, most especially Sandra Lee's Thanksgiving one where she make those onion tartlet things and Paula Deen's Thanksgiving where they make that turkducken and that yuck looking oyster dressing. lol she also makes Sweet Potato Balls which I tried one year, I always try a new sweet potato recipe for Thanksgiving day (I haven't found the perfect one!)

So what was saying? Sheesh I even lose my train of thought when I blog...uh...

Oh right! So anyway my point is that I love finding new recipes, I love this time of year and I L-O-V-E that I can save money on cookbooks by trying out recipes y'all are kind enough to post on your blogs! lol So thank you! :D I thought I'd share a couple of the ones that I have tried and love love love!

Thanks to Joanna at The Fifty Factor, I found the perfect recipe for Hard Boiled Eggs at Jane at the Garden Gate.

Thanks to Traci at Her Hillbilly Highness, I have a recipe for a fabulous Corn Casserole and trust me, this one is super quick and tastes awesome!

Thanks to Julie at A Vintage Chic, I now have something to serve for Thanksgiving breakfast: Spiced Pumpkin Pancakes and they are amazing!

And this one is a "thanks in advance" for just this morning I found a recipe for Pumpkin Swirl Brownies from Sassy Radish which I haven't tried out yet but believe me, I will make these A.S.A.P.!

And just for fun, once I get control of the Sewing Machine That Hates Me and Refuses to Let Me Sew On It, I am going to sew me up some felt goodies like this lunch set from Skip To My Lou.

So I have to ask: who out there has the perfect sweet potato recipe? It could be traditional with marshmallows or totally different or whatever, I just need a new recipe to try this Thanksgiving, help! lol :D

So funny, Maggi! I'm addicted to Food Network, too! I for some reason love to watch it while I'm exercising....wierd, huh?! Thanks for mentioning my blog--glad you like the recipes! And thanks, too--as always--for your visit and kind words! Hope you're having a marvellous day!

Yummy! More delicious recipes. :) I'm ALWAYS glued to the Food Network(my favorites are Rachael Ray and Giada DeLaurentiis). To be honest with you, I haven't tried a whole lot of different sweet potato recipes. I do very much like sweet potato pie - which is a bit denser than pumpkin. Don't know if you've tried it in pie yet, but I can certainly share the recipe I use with you, if you like. :)
Have a lovely day! Theresa

I've not had the pleasure of visiting the other blogs you retrieved recipes from, but I do know that Julie from a Vintage Chic provided us with some pretty yummy options, doesn't she?!

Now that my kids are grown and have kids of their own, holidays take on a different flavor as they try to fit in the in-laws, etc. I am pretty easy going because I know we will get together at some point in the day for some turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and crescent rolls!

Hi Maggi,

Wish I could help you out with the perfect sweet potato recipe but I'm a complete ditz in the kitchen. Let me check with "The Italian" and see what he might have.

I can't wait until next week! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! Eat...sleep...repeat!

hi maggi,
happy thanksgiving ! so cute the felt sack lunch kit :) sounds like you have a exciting time at thanksgiving, I'm not much into cooking different things at thanksgiving - it usually is just me and the hubby and I don't do many sweets....as we both need to lose weight. I have no clue for anything new for sweet potato recipes but I do like to bake & eat them that way.
I know you will really enjoy this year's holidays with little Toot getting older to enjoy them with you. Just wait till the day comes when she is old enough to actually cook with you :) THANKS ALWAYS FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND ALWAYS LEAVING ME COMMENTS - GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AT YOUR HOUSE.

you know I love me some recipes, but alas I can't help with the sweet potato one, not a fan unfortunately. I know, I suck! I just found out I am cooking my very first turkey this year.. not on Thanksgiving but that weekend and I am soo NOT ready for it! lol! I love making turkey soup after Thanksgiving, but I was trying to make it thru life without having to cook a turkey!

Oh My...those recipes sound yummy..I need the one for the corn caserole!!! I have made a sweet potato caserolen for years and my family loves it.....you can use fresh or canned....if using canned use 3 of the super large cans, drain, add 3/4 can of drained crushed pineapple, 1/4 chopped pecans, 1/4 cup brown sugar! Place in dish and bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees or until hot and then add you marshmallows to the top and cook until the marshmallows are all gooey and melted!!!! Hope you have a great day!!! :-)

I promise if you like sweets you will LOVE this casserole. It is my favorite thing about Thanksgiving besides being with my family of course. I can tell you what is in it, but she will have to give me the exact recipe! Ok pecans, brown sugar, butter and sweet potatoes! I will send it to you promise you will LOVE it! Ok so can you tell I get excied about my sweet potatoe casserole? I love the felt toys as well very cute:) Have a great day!

Maggie, I found your blog and yes, I do have tears in my eyes after reading your response to the dreaded "lists". Just for you my fav sweet potato recipe. Do you like spicy food? Use about 1/2 fresh sweet potato, or yam, per person. Scrub, slice thinly, layer in a baking dish, salt and pepper each layer. Then pour over enough heavy cream, seasoned with canned chipotle in adobo, to cover all the potatoes. Careful. Use just a bit of the chilis and the adobo, or more if you dare. Cover the baking dish, put on a cookie sheet to prevent spills, and bake at 350 for an hour. Bobby Flay featured this on his show but I found it years ago in a newspaper. I hope you like it.
