Sleepy Poet, Unsleepy Maggi

Previously, on "Just Add Glitter and Stir"...

This past Sunday, you may recall this post. I left things hanging on the proverbial cliff with me anxiously awaiting my first trip to Sleepy Poet Antique Mall.

Here's me before going in, praying to be favored with cheap fabulous junk.

You know how you hear about something that looks like it will be cool and you build it up in your mind about how great it is or will be and then you get it or go there and it's crap-tacular and a total waste?

....

Yeah, this was THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THAT!

Sleepy Poet Antique Mall is AWESOME!!!!!

Here's some pics of things I saw while there, please note I did not buy these things but wanted them all:

Yes, these are 1960s and 1970s patterns for $1, 1950s for $2 and the 1940s patterns were $5

If this radio is still there the next time I go back, I'm getting it!

Well, this is all well and good but you are probably wanting to know what I got my greedy little hands on, right? Well, I'm going to tell you...right after this commercial!

"Hi, my name is Toot and I'm here to speak to you about an epidemic sweeping across our great nation. This epidemic is so disgusting, so scarring, I can only hope that you will get involved to stop the madness. I'm speaking, of course about peas and their effect on precious babies...

Let's turn this:

Into this:

And remember, only you can prevent forest fires..."

Geez, commercial breaks get longer and longer these days...I'm so glad I have a DVR so I can fast forward through them...

ANYWAY, on to my haul!! dun dun DUN! Wait, I mean woo hoo HOO!

Singer button attachment for sewing machine, including box and instruction booklet: $1.00!

Saddle oxfords (yes, they fit-I've already worn them!): $6.50!

My mom bought the gloves for me for $3.75!

Ladies' Home Journal magazine, May 1956: $2.75!

A look inside...

Woman's Home Companion magazine, May 1954: $2.75!

A look inside...

McCall's magazine, January 1947: $2.75!

A look inside...

Pretty good so far, eh? The whole time I was in there, I was positively drooling! lol Now, what I was really hoping for was some dresses from the 1950's. This is one of my favorite decades and I've been really interested in incorporating some of clothes from the fifties into my wardrobe. I've been looking on Etsy and Ebay and have found some things but they unfortunately just haven't been in my budget. I also been on the look out for patterns to buy and keep just in case I can ever teach myself how to sew and then I can just make my own! lol But while at Sleepy Poet, I found a vendor that had EVERYTHING! I'm talking dresses, tops, bottoms, shoes, hosiery, garters, crinolines...e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! And believe it or not, the prices were pretty reasonable. So guess what I got...

This is a vintage 1950's dress in almost mint condition. There is some slight staining where it's been folded up and aged but that's it! It's a little fancier than a day dress but it fits me! Woo hoo! The pictures so do not do this dress justice...Here's a close up of the fabric:

Final price I paid for it: $43.00. Can you believe it?! And that was one of the more expensive dresses she was selling! If I had had more money, I could've come outta there with an entire wardrobe! lol

This was the kicker: the original price tag was still on it! You'll never guess what this dress cost originally:

You are not imaging things. This dress originally cost $5.99! ACK! And it's mine, all mine!!!!!

Whew...is anyone still reading this?! Longest post ever, yikes! lol I just couldn't split it up into two different posts, I was too excited to share it all with you!

In conclusion, I am saving all my money and will go back to Sleepy Poet...SOON. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go ice my sore blogging fingers...

and I want the table and chairs for my kitchen. It's pretty retro with the black and white check floor, jukebox, and my grandma's collection of glass reamers aka juicers.
